Winners of the International Chamber Music Competition
Franz Schubert & Modern Music 2025

The Gugg Piano Duo is the winner of the International Competition Franz Schubert and Modern Music 2025 and regularly performs in important concert halls – most recently in the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Brahms Hall of the Vienna Musikverein, the Stefaniensaal of the Musikverein Graz and the Athenaeum in Bucharest. They have been named BBC New Generation Artists for 2026–2028.

Tereza Gugg-Kalabova and Johannes Gugg met at the age of 14 in the course for highly gifted students at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. At the suggestion of their professor at the time, they began making music together and won national and international prizes after just a few months. Over the years, they developed an intuitive musical interplay and a deep personal connection; today, they are married and, in the words of Kleine Zeitung, “inseparable both in life and at the piano”.

  • "A unique, wonderful, and utterly mind-blowing concert evening."

    Passauer Neue Presse

  • "With deep musicality and great mastery, they captivated the audience through their cohesive ensemble playing and soulful expressiveness"

    Sirp

  • "Both of them, each on their own merit, are wonderful pianists. They are very different from one another, and this contrast makes their ensemble even more interesting and fascinating."

    Arie Vardi

  • "A world-class piano duo"

    Tegernseer Zeitung

  • "It was fascinating to witness how the duo interpreted the works as a couple who lives music together - two hearts beating together in the rhythm of the compositions."

    Passauer Neue Presse

  • "The public deserves to listen to them."

    Arie Vardi
